RBGH and Cancer - A Cause For Concern

What is rBGH? rBGH stands for recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone. It is a genetically engineered hormone produced in laboratories that farmers can use on cows. A cow naturally produces the hormone in

their pituitary gland. Like other hormones, it is produced in small quantities and is used in regulating metabolic processes. The cow produces this hormone to increase the output of milk for their offspring - baby cows. I'm sure it has other effects but this is the one the milking industry is interested in
The milking industry has known about this hormone since the late 1930's. But the only source of the hormone was from dead cows. But in the late 1970's, a chemical company, through bioengineering, was able to synthetically produce the hormone by inserting the gene for the hormone from the cow into E. Coli (bacteria). Hence, the term recombinant (a new combination of genetic material). Then, they grow that bacteria and it produces the synthetically produced rBGH. Now the farmers can inject the rBGH during the cows lactation period and cause it to make milk longer and more of it. rBGH is like "crack" for cows. It "revs" their system and forces them to produce a lot more milk - but it also makes them sick. The milking industry knows it makes the cows sick so they are regularly given antibiotics to try to limit the infections and inflammation. Even the FDA admits that cows injected with rBGH could suffer from increased udder infections (mastitis), severe reproductive problems, digestive disorders, foot and leg ailments, and persistent sores and lacerations. All of this sickness causes the rBGH milk to contain higher levels of pus and bacteria. Yuck!
Since rBGH was approved, approximately 40,000 small and medium-sized US dairy farmers, 1/3 of the total in the country, have gone out of business, concentrating milk production in the hands of industrial-sized dairies, most of whom are injecting their cows with rBGH
In a 1998 survey by Family Farm Defenders, it was found that mortality rates for cows on factory dairy farms in Wisconsin, those injecting their herds with rBGH, were running at 40% per year. In other words, after two and a half years of rBGH injections most of these drugged and supercharged cows were dead. Typically, dairy cows live for 15-20 years
The approval process for rBGH was the most controversial drug application in the history of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). In order to address that controversy, the FDA published an article in the journal SCIENCE (August 24, 1990)
Data in that paper reveal that the average male rat receiving rBGH developed a spleen 39.6 percent larger than the spleen of the control animals after just 90 days of treatment. The spleens from rBGH-treated females increased in size by a factor of 46 percent. These are not normal reactions and portray animals in distress. These animals were "under attack" by the genetically engineered hormone. The spleen is the first line of defense in a mammal's lymphatic system
Lab animals treated with rBGH developed lymphatic abnormalities. This same hormone causing changes in lab animals was introduced into America's food supply in 1994. As Americans continue to ingest genetically engineered milk and dairy products, lymphatic cancer rates soar. Americans have become laboratory subjects in genetic engineering's experiment, and the resulting data indicates extreme cause for concern
The (FDA) has also refused to require labeling of milk and other dairy products derived from use of the genetically engineered hormone, even though more than 90% of consumers favor labeling of rBGH products so they can avoid buying them
If you consume dairy and beef produced with rBGH, you are increasing your chances for lymphatic cancer and other unknowns. Rarely does man's artificial manipulation of nature produce healthy results. Yes, it produces a result that sounds good and even noble. But even a noble cause does not validate an unhealthy means of attaining it. I recommend consuming rBGH-free!
