Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew
Ford Motor Co. [NYSE: F] has announced five different safety recalls, affecting a total of 200,000 vehicles, including some Ford F-150, Flex, Transit, and Transit Connect models
Four of the five issues are new and affect those models, while the fifth revisits repairs on a previous issue affecting several older models
At the time of writing, the federal government still hadn’t posted official recall details to its safercar.gov portal; Ford hasn’t provided a timeline for repairs, either
Here are the four new issues
- 2014 Ford F-150 and 2014 Ford Flex: A safety-compliance issue with the passenger seat sensor potentially affects 135,000 North American vehicles, in which a malfunction of the passenger seat sensor could cause the a failure of the passenger-seat front airbag to deploy. In these vehicles, dealers will need to widen the gap between the seat frame and seat track, and calibrate the system.
- 2014 Ford F-150: The brake pedal position switch may be incorrectly adjusted, potentially resulting in failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. Drivers might also need to use additional pressure to disengage the cruise control. The issue affects 960 vehicles in North America, with 618 of those in the U.S., and on those affected trucks Ford will remove and reinstall the brake-position switch.
- 2014 Ford Transit Connect: Ford is recalling 27,597 Transit Connect models (including 25,238 in the U.S.) for a potentially misrouted fuel and vapor line. If improperly routed, they could rub together, potentially causing a leak over time—and eventually present the potential for a fire. This issue only potentially affects models with the 2.5-liter engine, built from August 1, 2013 to July 10, 2014. Dealers would reroute or replace the fuel line as necessary.
- 2015 Ford Transit: An issue, in models with the 3.2-liter diesel engine, with the bracket holding the fuel filter to the frame could lead to the filter becoming detached, increasing the chances of an engine stall. A knocking sound might signal the bracket’s failure.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries pertaining to the above recalls; it's a preemptive effort from the automaker, to get 'ahead' of several potential safety issues
2007 Ford Crown Victoria Standard
The automaker also issued a new safety recall for the 2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car, for potential issued with repairs from a previously issued recall. In about 38,600 North American vehicles, the lower intermediate steering shaft could fail, possibly resulting in a sudden loss of steering. Ford is aware of one accident—with no injuries—for Dealers will inspect the shaft and install a new steering column lower bearing and bearing retainer kit if needed
